FICTIONS
Utopian/Dystopian
- 1984 by George Orwell
- This books was too much for me in grade 11. I wanted to read it for fun but found myself forcing my dim-witted brain to enjoy it. It’s in the list because I learned something from it and it’s the reason I began to read other Utopian and Dystopian fictions.
- Animal Farm by George Orwell
- “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.” Chapter 10, pg. 118

- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
- Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
- The Giver by Lois Lowry
- The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
Mystery
- And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
- I believe this was my first mystery novel. We were to read it in grade 7 and I remember I thought the one behind the crime was a woman. Who could’ve thought a man would be responsible for a carefully, planned crime?
- Disordered Minds by Minette Walters
- Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christy
- Mystic River by Dennis Lehane
- number 1 mystery novel in my list
